Where an application for divorce is filed within 2 years after the date of the marriage, the court will usually require a counselling certificate stating that the parties have considered reconciliation with the assistance of a specified counsellor. UnitingCare Unifam’s counsellors are specified for this purpose.

Counselling may be individual or joint, depending on the circumstances.

How we can help

UnitingCare Unifam will invite the other party to attend. Where the other party does not respond or fails to attend, we will issue the required certificate. Where the other party does attend, we will issue the certificate following counselling, provided it is still required.

Cost

The cost of obtaining a counselling certificate is $100 for each attendee. This cost includes the counselling session, the invite to the other party and the certificate.
