Information for Schools

Teachers and school counsellors are best placed to identify children and young people who may be struggling or whose family are facing challenges.  Referral to a service outside the school may be preferable when young people and parents would like to keep their difficulties private.

Unifam has several services and programs targeted for children and young people.

Family Counselling with Children and Adolescents

Family Counselling with Children and Adolescents brings together families to improve communications, address everyone’s concerns and strengthen family relationships.

Options for Adolescents and Families

Options for Adolescents and Families assists young people (in year 7 – 12) and their parents to address their issues and build healthy relationships through family relationship counselling.

The Anchor (Supporting Children after Separation)

The Anchor (Supporting Children after Separation) supports kids (aged 5-18) through separation by providing services such as counselling for kids, consultation to parents in mediation and therapeutic groups for kids. www.theanchor.org.au

Unifam also runs several services and programs that support the whole family. View a full list services or programs to find out more.

How to refer

To refer a child or young person to Unifam or to find out more information about Unifam’s counselling and mediation services please contact any Unifam office. Referrals must be made with the consent of the family.

If appropriate, the school counsellor may ring Unifam whilst the parents are present to ensure they feel supported when approaching a new service.

Alternatively, families can be provided with one of Unifam’s many brochures or fact sheets so that they can contact Unifam themselves or find out more information.
